Helldivers II is a brand new release by the video game developer Arrowhead Game Studios. Helldivers II was initially announced on May 24th 2023 and was originally anticipated for release later that year, but in September it was announced to be released on February 8th 2024. So far according to Arrowhead Games CEO, as of February 11th the game has sold over 1 million units. Rated “M” for its mature rating due to “blood and gore” and “intense violence”, Helldivers II is a third-person shooter where players play as an Elite soldier among the Helldivers, the greatest military force the galaxy has ever seen. The player’s job is to capture enemy planets and defend against any invaders they may come around. Most enemies are giant bugs that the player is tasked to eliminate. Helldivers II gives players access to an arsenal of weapons to fit any combat situation. Helldivers II currently features 29 different primary weapons, 8 secondary weapons, and 10 different grenades. Unlike other shooters, players have a limited ammo supply unless they find some or call in a resupply. Players must be careful when reloading and make sure they use every bullet in the clip or any left over ammo is lost when the player reloads their weapon. Many weapons are also unlocked through the game’s “battle pass” which has both free and premium features. Helldivers II also features many diverse planets whose elements can have an impact on gameplay, such as a freezing cold planet that cause weapons to fire slower, but in turn also overheat at a slower rate. Players will get the chance to explore a vast number of these planets through a mission hub located inside of their very own starship. One of the coolest features is being able to see other players from round the world deploy on missions in real time. Helldivers II is a fully co-op game where players can play in groups of up to 4 giving players the ability to play with their friends or potentially create new ones. Unlike the first installment Helldivers, which was a top-down shooter, Helldivers II’s change to a third person shooter has people raving. Many players are enjoying the new play style and having been leaving overall positive reviews saying Arrowhead Games did everything right. Currently Helldivers II is only available on Playstation and PC so xbox players will not get a chance to enjoy this new game unless the developer decides to create an xbox port.
